Club of the month: Sydney University Australian National Football Club

Recognised as one of the oldest and largest Australian Football Clubs in NSW, Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) has a strong connection to the University of Sydney and Sydney University Sport and Fitness (SUSF).

Open to both University and Community members, SUANFC provides many social benefits including the promotion of healthy lifestyles, active participation, respect and responsibility, volunteerism and leadership through a culture of community – all within a safe and inclusive environment.

Currently we have 230 players and members, 100 associated volunteers and parents and many more supporters and former players.

This year alone has marked another significant development in our club’s history. Of our six senior sides, our first grade side completed their inaugural season in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) – a multi state competition involving the reserve grade sides from AFL Clubs: Sydney Swans, Greater Western Sydney Giants, Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns.

This move has positioned our club and our elite level footballers in a much stronger competition, as the NEAFL competition has over 800 players across all clubs and reaches an estimated audience in excess of 110,000.

Even with this move, SUANFC will remain a not-for-profit sporting organisation with an amateur ethos, operating professionally. We are active in promoting the culture of fun, fitness and friendship throughout the community and will continue to serve those with a general interest in Australian Football, including those new to the sport.
