Australia Africa Universities Network

The Australia Africa Universities Network (AAUN) is a group of leading universities in Australia and Africa, connecting researchers and academics through institutional partnerships in order to address challenges facing both continents.

The AAUN aims to:

  • Sustain research and education collaboration and leadership across priority areas
  • Marshal Australian and African expertise to address challenges across continents


The Network will respond to emerging needs and will respond to emerging needs and will create opportunities to facilitate links between areas of expertise, promoting collaboration in research and education across the following prioritised themes:

  • Food security (linking with the Australian International Food Security Centre under ACIAR)
  • Mining and minerals (linking with the Australian Centre for Mining and Development)
  • Public sector reform
  • Public health
  • Education


Membership is open to Australian and African universities. Benefits of membership include participation in the activities of the Network. A membership fee applies to support activities sponsored by the AAUN and other operational costs.
