International development opportunities


The International Development section portfolio in the Office of the DVC International includes three programs which contribute to the University's international profile: Regional Development, Scholarship Development and Resource Development. These programs offer assistance to academics and researchers at the University by providing advice on external funding programs to further international collaboration and capacity building; attract funding to support research partnerships; and design, develop and submit selected grant proposals and tenders in accordance with DVC International and faculty plans and priorities and in close collaboration with academic staff.

Regional development

There are dedicated regional development mangers appointed to all regions. These regional managers are responsible for gathering intelligence, intiating activities and disseminating information on their region of responsiblity. Their broad remit is to develop international partnerships in research and education with peer universities, governments, industry, international agencies and alumni; create opportunities for staff and students;and secure new resources in people,programs, grants and scholarships.

International Scholarships Development Office

The International Scholarships Development Office is located within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International). Our role is to forge and maintain partnerships with sponsor organisations in Australia and overseas, to secure grant and fellowship funding for students and staff. Our office also provides advice for University staff on external funding programs to further international collaboration.

Resource development

The specific goals of resource development are to:

  • Identify international funding opportunities and build new cross-disciplinary collaborations in research, education and staff/
    student exchange
  • Design, develop and submit selected grant proposals and tenders in accordance with DVC International and faculty plans and priorities and in close collaboration with senior academic staff and relevant
    partners and stakeholders
  • Provide advice, where required to University faculties/units on
    complex funding requirements,reporting and project management
    processes for secured grants and tenders

International Program Development Fund

The International Program Development Fund (IPDF) provides funding to University of Sydney academics to support initiatives in internationalisation. The aim is to foster international partnerships in research, teaching and learning, capacity building and other areas with high profile partners in priority areas. There is one round each year.
