Equity Scholarship Assessment
Equity scholarship applications are assessed by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), which provides information to the University of Sydney, which reflects the applicant's degree of disadvantage as assessed by the UAC based on the information provided in the application process.
The University of Sydney awards the scholarships according to eligibility and equity information provided by the UAC. Eligibility will be determined according to the current Ministerial Guidelines for Commonwealth Scholarships, pursuant to the Higher Education Support Act (2003).
If eligible applicants need to be distinguished, this may be done by equity ranking, academic merit or by duration of receipt of eligible means-tested Commonwealth benefits, as determined by the University of Sydney. The same criteria will apply to all applicants in any one round for any one scholarship.
Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria as at the HECS census date for the first scholarship period following offer of scholarship. If a student is not eligible at this point, or if the student is not awarded a scholarship in that round, he or she may re-apply in any subsequent application round throughout the course of their eligible degree.
Further assistance can also be found through Equity Support Services.
