Homestay and full board
Homestay and full board accommodation is usually offered in a family home and generally includes a furnished room, bills and meals in the advertised rental price per week.
Full board means accommodation and meals are provided. Generally, our providers are offering a spare room in their family home and are happy to help with conversational English if you are an international student. Search the database for this type of accommodation.
Homestay is for international students and provides accommodation and meals, as well as a cultural exchange between the student and host family. Generally, this accommodation is organised through an agency, and while you have to pay a registration fee, the agency should inspect the accommodation and interview the host family to make sure it is suitable for you.
Australian Homestay Network
The University has teamed up with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to offer temporary and introductory welcoming accommodation to newly-arrived international students. Ideally, hosts will be University alumni, but they may also be friends of alumni or other AHN specially selected and trained hosts.
Homestay is offered for the first two, three or four weeks following your arrival in Sydney, or even longer, if you and your homestay host wish.
