The Deputy-Vice Chancellor- Research works in partnership with academic leaders across the University to maintain and develop Sydney’s leading role within Australia and internationally as a pre-eminent research intensive university.

The University of Sydney is committed to continued improvement in its research performance, maintaining its leading role within Australia and improving its competitive position internationally in order to contribute to the economic, social and cultural well-being of Australia and the wider world.

To realise this vision the University is implementing strategies that will:

• attract and nurture the brightest researchers and support them to undertake research that makes an original contribution to knowledge or understanding;
• focus its research activities to create areas of critical mass and coordinate investment in key strategic research areas;
• align its organisational structure to support capabilities in key disciplines and cross-disciplinary areas and
• build capacity to undertake many different kinds of research translation including intellectual property protection and commercialisation.

Andrew Black: Director, Research Development and Collaboration
provides strategic advice to academic leaders and researchers on research opportunities, including major research initiatives as well as support to researchers seeking funding from all sources and with the preparation of high quality funding proposals.

Yamini Sandiran: Director, Research Grants and Contracts
works closely with the Research Development team to help researchers access research funding from all government and non-commercial sources, including the ARC and the NHMRC, and facilitates effective post-award administration of research grants and research related contracts.

Anders Hallgren: Director, Commercial Development and Industry Partnerships
works with industry partners and collaborators to secure funding and support for research and to assist researchers manage their Intellecutal Property and commercialise the outcomes of their research.

Rebecca Halligan: Director, Research Integrity and Ethics Administration
provides support to researchers to ensure compliance with research codes of conduct and for ethics approvals (human and animal).

TBA - formerly: Merril Bouckley: Director, Research Reporting, Analysis, Data and Systems:
provides support to the DVCR and academic leaders on research performance, reporting and research data capture and analysis; and provides support for research systems including RIMs and IRMA.

Grant Cruchley: Manager, Research Policy and Analysis:
coordinates research policy advice and projects and provides support to DVCR committees.
