Academic Board Reviews Phase 1
In its October 2000 meeting the Academic Board resolved to undertake collegial reviews of academic activities to evaluate academic quality assurance processes and to assist in the propagation of best academic practice. The Reviews were to be undertaken at Faculty-level, not individual course-level, and would be designed to assist faculties and deans to progress towards the goals identified in the University Plan and in faculty Teaching and Learning Plans.
The Review process would include a large element of self-assessment, with a focus on making sure that processes and structures were in place rather than focus on outcomes.
The first round of reviews came to be called Academic Board Phase One Reviews of Faculties. They focused on Teaching and Learning and Research Training (University Goals 1 and 3).
Key Milestones
- Faculty to draw their own conclusions on the quality of their processes as they support the faculty’s strategic objectives
- Review Team to assess the robustness and validity of the faculty’s judgements.November 2001 - training program for staff nominated by faculties to participate in Review Teams
- November 2001 - review of the first faculty - Faculty of Veterinary Science
- July 2002 - Guidelines for Faculty Reviews of Teaching, Learning and Research Training adopted (please note that these have since been rescinded). Guidelines for Preparing the Self-Evaluation Report (SER) were included in Appendix I. Please Note, these Guidelines are now superseded.
- November 2002 - last faculty reviewed in Phase One - Faculty of Economics and Business
- May and July 2003 - reviews of the Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Koori Centre
