Project update: May 2013

The University would like to thank the local community who commented on the Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Strategy that is being prepared in accordance with the Department of Planning & Infrastructure’s Project Approval, which seeks to improve connectivity to and from the Darlington Campus. We now have the material to develop a strategy that will respond to the input we have received from the local community and statutory authorities. A comprehensive report about the Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Strategy including feedback from the local community will be issued mid-year.

What's next:

  • Following the completion of all site preparation works, the appointment of a head contractor is programmed to occur in June, with an expected commencement on site in July.
  • Between 30-31 May (weather-permitting) the City of Sydney will be carrying out some re-surfacing work along Abercrombie Street. For information on the site and its impacts please contact Greg Thompson 0407 499 603 or email

Monday 23 April 2012

The University has formally submitted plans for the Abercrombie Precinct Redevelopment project to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

During 2011 and early 2012 we consulted with the local community, and made a series of revisions and amendments based on those conversations.

The new planning submission will be available on the department’s website in the coming weeks and will include comprehensive reports and plans. We will provide the link to these resources as soon as they are the department’s website.

The process for providing feedback and responses to the plan must now be made through the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

Find out more about our consultation activities.

Project update: Submission delay

Friday 2 March 2012

The submission of the Abercrombie Precinct Redevelopment with the Department of Planning has been delayed as we continue to finalise plans for the project.

Over the past few months we have been consulting with our stakeholders, including the local community, to develop a new plan that compliments the character and heritage of Darlington.

We are committed to building a world-class business school that also provides a space that the community can use and be proud of. In order to achieve this we believe that the current project requires more time to get it right. This time will also allow us to ensure that the current deliverables are achievable within the assigned budget.

Once the submission package is finalised the images and plans will be available on this website.

We will continue to keep you up to date and will communicate the new submission date when it is confirmed.

In the meantime, contact us with your questions or feedback.

Project update

23 November 2011

The Abercrombie Precinct Redevelopment was assessed in 2011 under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW).

In recognition of both government and community feedback we have discarded the design and are now incorporating the concerns raised into a new concept.

Once finalised, the design will be presented to the local community for feedback before being lodged with the City of Sydney Council. Details will also be available here on the Abercrombie Precinct website.
