For 20 years Miles has worked in the manufacturing and university sectors performing industry based R&D and product development as well as a range of business development and technology management roles. He has experience in industry – university collaborations, has been active in marketing and sales activities of new technologies and developing the IP and commercialisation strategy for a subsidiary of a large manufacturing company. In the university sector, Miles has been responsible for developing partnerships and linkages with industry and other external organisations; management of intellectual property and promotion and marketing for the NANO Major National Research Facility. He is currently the CEO for the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility (AMMRF).

As CEO for the AMMRF, Miles supports the AMMRF Executive Director in the successful execution of the AMMRF Project Plan. This includes working with the AMMRF partners to ensure all proposed activities are completed and reported and that all formal compliance reporting obligations to federal and state governments and institutional stakeholders are met. Miles is also responsible for the communications, marketing and business development activities of the AMMRF and supervisors a small team working in that area. The role is located within the ACMM and therefore also provides high level and strategic operational, planning and management support to the Director of the ACMM.
