Dr Caroline Fuery

Microscopy Australia Chief Operating Officer

Ph: + 61 2 9351 2887

BSc Hons (1st class); PhD

After completing her B.Sc and Ph.D. at the University of Western Australia, Caroline spent 20 years working in the MedTech industry, first in big pharma with Johnson & Johnson where she progressed from an early stage post-doctoral researcher to a research manager. During this time she invented and developed novel diagnostic technologies based on PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and went on to help commercialise and disseminate these technologies both inside and outside the J&J family of companies.

Most recently Caroline worked in a start-up medtech company, SpeeDx Pty Ltd, which she co-founded in 2009 to commercialise molecular diagnostic technologies invented and developed by the team. The technologies form the basis of diagnostic tests that detect DNA and RNA associated with conditions such as bacterial and viral infections, cancer and hereditary disorders.

Caroline’s current role provides strategic leadership and management support to the Chief Executive Officer of Microscopy Australia.

She works closely with the node Directors across Australia to ensure the facility operates in accordance with its annual business plans, Commonwealth government, State government and multi-institutional collaborative agreements to achieve best practice in collaborative research infrastructure outcomes and performance.

As Microscopy Australia COO Caroline leads the facility’s administration, communications, business development and international engagements with particular responsibility for finance, administration and compliance.
