Research project
Dr. Moody is undertaking research in the field of atom probe tomography (APT), with an emphasis on the theoretical aspects underpinning the technique. His recent research has focused on the adaptation and development of analysis tools specific to the increasingly large 3D atomistic datasets generated by the state-of-the-art instruments. He has developed advanced spatial-distribution-map techniques, enabling the characterisation of multiple crystallographic orientations within a single APT dataset. Combined with new calibration methodologies for the reconstruction algorithm, this has enabled investigations into the accuracy and limits of APT. He has developed an array of nanostructure-characterisation algorithms. This combined focus on reconstruction accuracy and precise characterisation has helped to provide new insights into correlations between the formation and evolution of nanoscale solute clustering and bulk material properties.
