Postgraduate Studies in Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE)

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) at the University of Sydney is a leading group in Australia engaging in teaching and researching in applied economics, with a particular focus on agricultural economics, development economics, natural resource economics and environmental economics. Postgraduate studies at ARE are offered at PhD level, MPhil level (research), and MAgr. level (coursework). All postgraduate research students undertake individual research projects and produce a significant and publishable piece of original research work (thesis) of high standing. Students are supported in this endeavor by world class supervision and research environment. All research students are also required to undertake some advanced postgraduate coursework in the areas of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics.

Enrolling in a postgraduate studies program at ARE opens opportunities to research some of the most intellectually demanding problems of our time:

  • How to feed a growing human population without further depleting valuable natural resources?
  • How to think about and act on climate change?
  • How to best help some of the poorest countries in the world to develop?
  • How to use our water, minerals, and oceans in best possible way?

Come and join us in a quest to answering some of these questions.

Head of Department
