Resource Economics
OVERVIEW
If you are driven by understanding how the economics of water, minerals and energy and the environment are all integrated and applied then a focus on resource economics as a specialisation will be of benefit to your career. Throughout your studies you will develop skills in using applied economic methods, such as benefit-cost analysis, environmental evaluation methods, mathematical programming and optimal control techniques that will enable you to understand and analyse some of the fascinating problems facing modern society, including; water availability and quality, biodiversity, deforestation, renewable and non-renewable energy sources and climate change.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS
This course offers you the opportunity to expand your horizons to explore such topics as welfare economics, environmental issues, and the economics of energy generation, distribution and use. It provides theoretical and empirical background for institutional and policy analysis this combined with undertaking a cost benefit analysis will give you the know-how required by the resource economist in today’s challenging market place.
THEMES
This socially orientated course offers an interface between science, economics and policy. It offers you the opportunity to work with those who have similar interests and concerns. The Master of Agriculture answers the need for new determinations in an ever-growing field.
MODE OF DELIVERY
This course offers a flexible course structure to suit the specialisation you undertake. Most classes are conducted on the Camperdown campus during the week (no evening classes are held). Components of the course structure may include some of the following; project report, group presentation, practical or field work, a research project, lectures, examinations or literature reviews. You will be required to undertake extensive reading in all subject areas and all courses are conducted by recognised specialists in the field.
PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT
Many units are based on compulsory fieldwork carried out prior to the commencement of semester. All coursework students should be available to participate in fieldwork excursions two weeks prior to the commencement of semester.
