AGT

Australian Grain Technologies Pty Ltd (AGT) was established in 2002 as part of the change from public plant breeding programs to private ones.

The first groups to consolidate into this company were the wheat breeding activities from the University of Adelaide Waite and Roseworthy campuses. The breeding group from the Victorian Department of Agriculture, Horsham was also added around this time.

In 2005 AGT merged with SunPrime Seeds Pty Ltd which bought the University of Sydney successful wheat breeding program for northern Australia and the Hybrid wheat program based at Narrabri. AGT is the largest of the Southern Eastern Australia plant breeding companies.

A number of changes have occurred since this merger with Vilmorin & Cle in July 2008 purchasing a major shareholding of AGT. Vilmorin & Cle is a wholly owned subsidiary of Limagrain Holdings who is the 4th largest seed company in the world.

AGT still have access under license to the University of Sydney Narrabri site and still work with PBI on a number of projects including the National Triticale Improvement Program.
