Mentoring
Mentoring is rewarding, satisfying and a wonderful way to give back! Now the Alumni Relations Office is seeking alumni interested in becoming online mentors to University of Sydney students.

No previous mentoring experience is needed, simply a desire to help a student, and the amount of time involved will be decided mutually between you and the student – normally about an hour a week for as few or as many weeks as suits.

The alumni-student mentoring process is intended to focus on career development, and will complement any academic mentoring students receive from tutors and lecturers.

To become a mentor, you will need to pass a very simple online test, fill in an online profile that details your qualifications and the areas of your expertise, and then wait for an invitation from a student seeking a good match with their mentoring requirements.

Examples could range from a third year female law student seeking to benefit from the experience of a woman who graduated in law 10 years previously to talk about work/life balance; a business student going on exchange to Toronto or Hong Kong and looking for an alumni in one of those cities who could give advice on accommodation or the cultural aspects of life; how to manage your career in a big organisation; and so on.

We need significant numbers of alumni to register as mentors before we can offer this service to students.
