Aaron is an Aboriginal teacher from the remote community of Wee Waa, who is playing a pivotal role in the revival of Aboriginal languages in NSW.

He enrolled in his master’s degree to further his knowledge of the local Aboriginal language of Gamilaraay, and achieved exceptional academic results, posting the highest mark of any candidate to date. Using the knowledge he gained, Aaron developed and delivered a trial program of instruction in Gamilaraay at Wee Waa High School, employing art as an innovative teaching strategy.

Following its success, he went on to deliver a 100 hour course in Gamilaraay as the school’s mandatory Year 7 and 8 Language Other Than English subject. He has also implemented a community based language learning class that is the focus for Gamilaraay revival in Wee Waa and the wider region.
