Yum cha bruch
On 23rd February, the Chinese Studies Alumni Association held a yum cha brunch at East Ocean Restaurant. It was well attended, with graduates of the department, academic staff and their families, and even graduates of Chinese Studies from other universities coming together to celebrate the new Year of the Rat.

Picnic Day at the FarmThe Chinese Studies Alumni Association held a Picnic Day on Saturday 21 July at Fern Valley Ranch, Somersby. Hosts for the visit were Nr Chung Hou Lee and Dr Lily Lee. Dr Lee is a graduate of the Department of Chinese Studies and well-known to many as a former lecturer in the Department.
Over 20 members and friends spent a happy day feeding the pedigree cows, picking oranges and walking through the bush to admire the waterfall on the property.
AGM in September was a success!
The fifth Annual General Meeting of the Chinese Studies Alumni Association, University of Sydney took place on 19 September 2006. President Prof. Jocelyn Chey presented a report on the previous year’s activities, including a reunion in August to mark 50 years of teaching Chinese at the university. After the election of the new committee, guest speaker and alumnus Rory Macpherson gave a talk about his experiences of working in China since 2001.
