Remona Mekdessi, December 2011
During a winter trip to Lebanon, I learnt much abut my family and history, particularly on the day we visited this quiet village. The multi-levelled, concrete buildings and mountains in the photo were captured from the roof of my grandparent's old residence in Assoun. Almost each building is unfinished, lifeless and grey, and the mountains rigid, affected from the civil war that swept the villagers including my family to safer lands at the coast of the country between the 1970s to 1990s. This photo can't be captured again in the near future; the building's foundations are extremely brittle at the edge of a muddy cliff.
