Dean's welcome

Solving the most challenging global problems of our time

Welcome to the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning.

Professor Robyn Dowling

Professor Robyn Dowling, Head of School and Dean, Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning

The School celebrated its centenary in 2018, which provided our academic community, students and alumni the time and space to reflect on the School’s rich heritage, celebrate truly outstanding achievements, and assess the significant impact our graduates bring to the built environment both locally and around the world.

The School enters its second century in an urban age, and we are uniquely positioned to solve contemporary built environment challenges through expertise in architecture, design thinking, user experience design, architectural science and urbanism - along with an abiding curiosity and commitment to collaboration. In this urban future, the work of our researchers, students and graduates will inevitably become increasingly crucial.

I am proud of our School’s rigorous and collaborative academic environment, and welcome and encourage a diverse range of voices from designers, architects, planners, industry, artists, engineers, philosophers, government and scientists to join the conversation on the resolution of contemporary built environment and design issues. Our community of students and academics come from nations from around the world, and female participation is proportionately larger in both our staff and our student bodies.

The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning has been fostering dialogue about buildings, design, cities, and environments for a century, and we invite our staff, students and alumni to join and continue that conversation into the future.
