Dr Nicole Gurran
Associate Professor

Nicole Gurran is an urban planner and policy analyst whose research focuses on comparative land use planning systems and approaches to housing and ecological sustainability. She has been with the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney since 2002. Prior to this time she practiced as a planner in several state government roles, concerning local environmental plan making, environmental management, and housing policy.

Professor Paul Jones
Associate Professor and Program Director,

Paul Jones came to the Urban and Regional Planning and Policy Program on a full time basis at the beginning of 2011 with diverse experience as a planning practitioner, and an excellent academic record. Paul is an urban development and management practitioner with 30 years professional experience in developing sustainable urban management, urban development and planning solutions in Australia and overseas.

Professor John Lea
Honorary Associate Professor

John Lea was senior planning assistant at the City of London and City of Westminster in the 1960s. He subsequently taught urban and regional planning at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg before being appointed at the University of Sydney from 1975-2001 where he was also Director of the IB Fell Housing Research Centre in the Faculty of Architecture from 1990-1995. On retirement he spent a year as Program Quality Adviser at the Australian Government Agency for International Development in Canberra. He has been a consultant internationally for UNESCO, AusAID and the World Bank; and in Australia for various Commonwealth and state government departments. He currently teaches part-time, supervises research students and is co-editor of Pacific Rim Geographies, Routledge.
