New in 2011 - American Studies in First Year
A new unit, AMST1001 Global America, will be taught in semester two
Unit description: This unit will investigate the global connectedness of the United States and how this relates to the core values and interests that define America. The primary focus will be on the United States in the 21st global century. The pedagogical aim of this unit is to provide students with analytical frames to understand the most important issues in contemporary American literature, culture, politics, society and the economy, and how they are affected by and affect the world outside the US.
To take American Studies at a senior level after 2011, students will be required to take both AMST1001 & HSTY1076 American History from Lincoln to Clinton (which is taught in semester one)
AMST1001 can also be counted toward the prerequisites for taking senior English and History units
New in 2011 - AMST2601 with the University of North Carolina
In 2011, AMST2601, the required core course in the American Studies major, will include a module taught in collaboration with students and staff from the Department of American Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The module will involve video and electronic discussions with students, and an assignment which will be done in groups made up of American and Australian students
