April 2006

In April 2006, BAP Director Kate da Costa spent a week with Abdul Rauf Tebishat (Department of Antiquities representative) and Aladdin Madi (Pella Excavation Project manager) visiting the case-study region. We worked from a list of 40 sites, previously identified by Siegfried Mittman, the Wadi Yabbis survey and the Wadi Ziqlab survey teams, all listed in JADIS – the Jordanian Archaeological Data Information System.

We wanted to find out whether the sites still existed (Mittman visited the region in the 1960s, well before modern development and population pressures), how accessible they were, how much surface pottery was present and whether owners would grant permission to work on the sites
