Research Overview

The Department of Archaeology is one of the outstanding centres for learning about and researching the ancient and pre-literate human past. It has internationally recognized scholars and a large group of research students actively investigating a wide variety of questions about past human life and cultural change through history. Staff and students are carrying out fieldwork in several areas of the world, as well doing methodological and theoretical research with global application. The Department specialises in research on six broad regional and thematic programs: Australia and the Pacific, Human Cultural Evolution, Mediterranean, Middle East/Central Asia, South East Asia, and Urbanism.
