Christie’s Internship 2013

12 November, 2012

Christie's auction house in London is offering a rare internship opportunity for University of Sydney students that came about out of the Picasso sale that took place at Christie's in 2011. The Picasso masterpiece was donated to the University of Sydney to raise funds for scientific research, and it sold at Christie's in June for AU$20.6 million.

Eligible recipients will spend two months in London at the height of the art auction season working with leading fine art experts across a range of businesses.

‘This is an invaluable opportunity for our students. Christie's is one of the busiest and most successful auction houses in the world and the intern will gain first-hand experience of its day-to-day operations’, said Mark Ledbury, Director of the Power Institute at the University of Sydney. ‘The selected interns will have the chance to gain experience that may shape a career. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences recognizes the special nature of this opportunity and is thus enhancing the internship with a generous package of support for travel and living expenses.’

The internship is aimed at students who undertook a major in Art History or related subject as part of their undergraduate degree and are either currently honours or postgraduate University of Sydney students, or are applying to commence as an honours or postgraduate student for 2013.

‘We are absolutely delighted that Christie's and the Faculty have been able to collaborate on creating this exciting opportunity for one of our outstanding students to work in their London offices’, says Professor Duncan Ivison, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. ‘We are passionate about art as well as giving our students unrivalled learning experiences. The Christie's internship is a wonderful manifestation of both of those commitments.’
