Polanyi-Hayek Workshop: Questioning the Utopian Springs of Market Economy
From 15 August, 2014 to 16 August, 2014
The initiative for the workshop stems from the seventieth anniversary of the publication of two seminal political economy texts written respectively by Karl Polanyi and Friedrich Hayek, both of which delineated very different pathways to the utopian springs constituting the challenging market economy.
The workshop will be hosted by the Department of Political Economy at the University of Sydney, and have confirmed both Professor Sandra Halperin (Royal Holloway University of London), author of War and Social Change in Modern Europe: The Great Transformation Revisited, and Professor Philip Mirowski (University of Notre Dame), author of Never Let A Serious Crisis Go To Waste: How Neoliberalism Survived the Social Meltdown, as initial keynote plenary speakers.
