12 November, 2012

CISS Senior Lecturer, Dr Sarah Phillips, has been awarded two prestigious grants by the Australian Research Council (ARC) for research beginning in 2013.

Dr Phillips was awarded $363,379 under the Discovery Early Career Research Award scheme for her project 'State formation and external finance: a case study of Somaliland'. The award is highly competitive with over 1200 applicants and only 200 projects funded across Australia.

Dr Phillips is also part of a research team awarded funding under the Discovery Project scheme, with $148,949 to support the project 'Uncovering the organisational dynamics of pirates and maritime terrorists'. Dr Justin Hastings, also in the Department of Government and International Relations, is the lead on the project.
