CISS at the International Studies Association Annual Convention 2013

Our CISS staff will be attending the International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Convention in April 2013 in San Francisco, California.
ISA’s Annual Convention 2013 (April 3-6) is titled “The Politics of International Diffusion: Regional and Global Dynamics.” Our academics are looking forward to taking part in this exciting global event. Please find below details of the sessions in which our people will be participating.
Director of CISS and the Michael Hintze Chair of International Security Professor Der Derian will be participating in a day-long workshop ‘Filming/Film in IR: Visual Methodologies, Aesthetics and Ethics in International Relations’ (PWK03: Tuesday 9 AM-5:30 PM).
He will also be chairing a panel, ‘Biopolitics of the War on Terror: Theorizing Different Sites/Sights of Power’ (FA56: Friday 8:15 AM-10:00 AM). He will act as a discussant for two panels, ‘Strategy Through Social Theory?’ (FD28: Friday 4:00 PM-5:45 PM) and ‘World Politics and Diffusion: The Case of Popular Culture’ (SD24: Saturday 4:00 PM-5:45 PM).
He will also be screening the new Global Media Project documentary, Project Z: The Final Global Event as part of the 11th Annual Human Rights Film Festival. CISS will be co-sponsoring a reception prior to the screening. Click here for more details.
Assoc. Prof. Jingdong Yuan will present two papers and serve as a discussant on a panel at the Convention.
He will present papers as part of ‘China and Raw Materials Exporters’ (TA65: Thursday 8:15 AM-10:00 AM) and ‘China’s Military: Recent Developments’ (FA45: Friday 8:15 AM-10:00 AM).
Dr Yuan will serve as a discussant at the panel ‘Challenges of Chinese Foreign Policy’ (TC30: Thursday 1:45 PM-3:30 PM).
Dr Frank Smith will present a paper at a panel, ‘Perspectives on Security Theory’ (SD43: Saturday 4:00 PM-5:45 PM).
Dr Adam Kamradt-Scott will present a paper and serve as a discussant on a panel at the Convention.
Dr Kamradt-Scott will present a paper at the panel ‘Infectious Disease Control: Securitization and Policy Under Globalization’ (SB29: Saturday 10:30 AM-12:15 PM). He will act as discussant at ‘War, Medicine, Security’ (SA48: Saturday 8:15 AM-10:00 AM).
