Last month, a group of CISS members met with Ms Gillian Bird, the Australian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade office in Sydney.
The meeting covered a range of issues including the Australia's relationship with the United Nations; the challenges faced by the UN in transition with the new Secretary-General under Trump's administration; UN's ability to intervene in conflicts such as Syria; nuclear disarmament issues within North Korea as well as Australia; UN peacekeeping operations; refugee issues and the challenge of dealing with massive migration; and UN's role in sustainable development goals.
CISS would like to thank the Sydney office of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for organising this productive meeting with Ambassador Bird.
