Department of Classics and Ancient History
Welcome to the Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Sydney. Classics and Ancient History has been taught at Sydney since the University's inception in 1852. The department is located in the historic main quadrangle and the adjunct Brennan/MacCallum buildings (map). We are the largest department of Classics and Ancient History in Australasia with an internationally renowned faculty.
The Department is administered by the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI), within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. If you have already enrolled in an undergraduate degree, or are about to start one, we invite you to explore our offerings. We also offer several postgraduate research programmes and have a large and vibrant postgraduate community.
As part of the University of Sydney 2017 Alumni Awards, the Department of Classics and Ancient History's graduate Dane Drivas has been shortlisted for the prestigious Edmund Barton Award.
We congratulate Dane on his nomination! The award ceremony will be held on 28 April, 2017.
The Learning Centre provides resources for students to build and extend the skills they need for study and research at university. Places are limited, so make sure you register online.
