Suspension of candidature

Once you have been enrolled for a minimum of one year and have passed your probation, you can apply to suspend for a maximum of two semesters during the remainder of your candidature.

If you intend to suspend your degree, you need to submit your application at least one week prior to the census date of the semester that you intend to suspend. Any request for suspension cannot be approved for a semester once the census date has passed.

Per the
University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011 you may suspend your candidature for a period of one year. Further suspensions are only granted in compelling circumstances a the discretion of the Dean or Associate Dean.

At the end of your suspension you will be required to re-enrol via your Sydney Student portal.

Failure to re-enrol correctly after a suspension will result in your candidature lapsing.

If your candidature in a course lapses, then, despite any contrary provision in this Rule, the procedures for you to apply for readmission to the course are to be as the
Dean or Associate Dean determines.
