Suspension of candidature
Periods of suspension may only be taken in semester blocks. All Postgraduate Research candidates may apply to suspend for a maximum of two semesters in their candidature. Only candidates who have been enrolled for a minimum of one year and who have passed probation are eligible to apply for a period of suspension.
Periods of suspensions cannot be entered into after the relevant semester’s HECS census deadline. Candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their application a minimum of one week prior to the relevant semester’s HECS census deadline to allow sufficient time for the application to be considered by the Faculty’s Associate Dean of Postgraduate Research and processed accordingly.
Candidates must obtain the signed approval of their supervisor and their department’s Postgraduate Research Coordinator prior to submitting their application to the Faculty. Where the candidate’s supervisor is also the department’s Postgraduate Research Coordinator, the form must be approved and signed by the Chair of Department or Head of School. Applications may be submitted in person to the Faculty’s student services counter during standard opening hours. Alternatively, applications may be submitted as a scanned email attachment sent from the candidate’s University of Sydney email address.
Candidates will be notified of the result of their application by email.
