Undertaking coursework units of study

Introduction

Both DArts and DSocSci candidates complete coursework units of study as part of their candidature.

If you are enrolled in the DArts or the DSocSci, only postgraduate units of study can be counted towards your degree. If you choose to, you can take additional units outside of this compulsory requirement at the undergraduate or postgraduate level with permission.

For all other postgraduate research degrees, enrolment in a unit of study is optional. In some cases, your supervisor may recommend a unit of study that is beneficial to your research.

You can apply to enrol in units at the postgraduate and undergraduate level across all departments or faculties in the University. Enrolment in units of study will not incur any fees for domestic or international students.

Please note that standard coursework dates for enrolment and withdrawal apply.

Once you are enrolled in a unit of study, it will appear on your academic record. The final grade for the unit will appear on your official transcript.

Master of Arts (Research) students are permitted only to take units for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Postgraduate Coursework Table of Units of Study and must be relevant to your research. By taking units of study, the length of a MA(Res) student's thesis will be reduced, per the resolutions.
