The Faculty requires satisfactory attendance at classes as a minimum condition of completion of a unit of study. Attendance below 80% of tutorials/seminars without written evidence of illness or misadventure* may be penalised with loss of marks. Local conditions and penalties are publicised in unit of study outlines, or on the unit of study Blackboard site.
Attendance at less than 50% per cent of classes, regardless of the reasons for the absences, will automatically result in the student’s case being referred to a department examiners’ meeting. Non-attendance at 50% or more of classes without due cause is likely to result in a student receiving an Absent Fail grade for the unit of study.
It is the students’ responsibility to contact unit of study Coordinators as soon as possible in the case of difficulties that interfere with their attendance, and to provide supporting documentation wherever possible.
The Faculty rules for student attendance are set out in the
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Attendance Policy.
Domestic students can change their attendance status from full time to part time by simply varying their enrolment. A full time load is 18-30 credit points per semester. A part time load is 6-12 credit points per semester. If at any time a student would like to change from part time to full time, the student must vary their enrolment by the relevant semester deadline. Please refer to the Important Dates page for deadlines.
It is a requirement for International students to attend university on a full-time basis. They can apply for a reduced load if certain circumstances apply. Please refer to the Reduced Load for International Students page for more details.
