Postgraduate Research Support Scheme (PRSS)
The PRSS is a scheme introduced by the University in 2001 to provide direct support for currently enrolled postgraduate research students. Under the scheme, funds are allocated to Schools of Departments (in some cases, Faculties) based on their higher degree research enrolment figures in the previous year. The funds are not allocated directly to students, but are awarded by Schools or Departments to eligible applicants on a competitive basis according to the University’s general guidelines.
The PRSS provides for reimbursement for expenses incurred by currently enrolled eligible research candidates during the period 1st January to 31st December. This means that you may apply for reimbursement for expenses that you have already incurred (you may have purchased books or essential software in March), or for expenses that you expect to incur (you may be planning to attend and present a paper at a conference overseas in October).
To apply, apart from completing the application form, you will be required to provide brief statements on justification for the use of funds, and any evidence of achievement during candidature. You should discuss your application with your supervisor, as he or she must endorse your application with a signature in Section 7 of the application form.
