Requirements

Please note: Students who commenced their degree prior to 2013 should refer to the Faculty of Arts Undergraduate Handbook from the year they commenced.

Students must complete 192 credit points in total, made up of

(a) 78 credit points in core Media and Communications (MECO) units of study comprising 18 junior credit points in MECO units of study and 60 senior credit points in MECO units of study taken from the Table of Media and Communications units of study.
(b) a major from Table A from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Tables of units of study;
(c) elective units of study or an additional optional major from Table A or B from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Tables of Units of Study, or a Marketing major from the Sydney Business School.

Candidates must also comply with the following limits:

(a) a maximum of 60 credit points from Table B including no more than 12 junior credit points;
(b) a maximum of 72 junior credit points;
(c) a minimum of 120 Senior credit points.

Compulsory Media and Communications Units of Study

Table A Major in the Media and Communications degree

To earn a major in a subject area (from Table A) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, students will complete 36 senior credit points in that subject area. Please note that the Media requirements change from year to year.

You can fit in another major, in addition to the required one, as long as you plan your subject choices very carefully.

Internship

Usually in fourth year, you will be required to do an internship and a project on your internship in either Semester 1 and 2. The Media and Communications department will give you information about how to arrange this internship when the time comes.
