The degrees of Arts (Media and Communications) and Laws make make an excellent academic foundation for students looking to enter the legal profession or for those interested in the media and communications industry.
The Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) program at the University of Sydney is renowned for the depth and breadth of training it offers in the media and communications field. This field encompasses a host of diverse and expanding industries that offer exciting employment opportunities both nationally and globally.
The first 4 years of the degree are spent completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) component of the degree, which offers an unparalleled combination of academic excellence and professional training in media and communications. Students will study Media and Communications, Arts and Social Sciences and Law subjects concurrently during years 1 - 3 and Media and Communications and Arts in year 4, before proceeding with the Bachelor of Law component at the Law School in years 5 - 6.

Requirements (Years 1 - 4)
Please note: Students who commenced their degree prior to 2011 should refer to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Undergraduate Handbook from the year of their commencement.
To qualify for the award of the combined program, candidates must complete 288 credit points, comprising;
(a) 192 credit points from Tables A and B; and
(b) 144 credit points of Law units of study, of which 48 credit points are combined Law compulsory units of study for years 1, 2 and 3 and are credited towards the requirements for both the Bachelor of Arts (MECO) and the Bachelor of Laws degrees.
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Arts (Media & Communications) candidates must complete 192 credit points, comprising:
(a) 48 credit points of the Combined Law compulsory units of study for Years 1, 2
& 3;
(b) a maximum of 48 junior credit points (not including the LAWS units)
(c) 78 credit points (18 junior and 60 senior) of core Media and communications (MECO) units of study including MECO1001, MECO1002 & MECO1003;
(d) a major from Table A
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Laws, candidates must complete 144 credit points taken from the Faculty of Law Undergraduate table, comprising;
(a) 102 credit points of compulsory units of study; and
(b) 42 credit points of elective units of study, of which a maximum of 36 credit points are taken from Part 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points are taken from Part 2.
Compulsory Media and Communications Units of Study
You will complete the 18 junior credit points for Media and Communications in the first year and the remaining 60 senior credit points over years 2, 3 and 4.
These units of study are worth 6 credit points unless otherwise stated.

Majors
Unfortunately, you can’t fit in two majors from the Arts and Social Sciences table of units of study in your Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications)/ Laws degree. However, note that in addition to your Arts and Social Sciences (Table A) major, you can do up to two senior or junior units of study in one other subject area from the Arts and Social Sciences table (Table A or B) if you choose to;
