Upgrade or Exit with a Shorter Award Course
Please note: this information is for students who wish to upgrade or exit within an embedded sequence. Students wishing to transfer to a different award course (e.g. from a Master of Museum Studies to the Master of Art Curatorship) will need to make a new application for admission.
Upgrades for postgraduate award courses
Discontinue study and exit with a shorter degree
Steps to apply
You can apply to either upgrade, or exit your studies with a shorter award course, if it is part of an embedded sequence and the admission requirements for each stage have been met.
The requirements to upgrade to a higher award can be found in the resolutions for your course in the Online Handbook.
Only the highest award will be conferred, so you need to apply before the last day to add units of study if you would like to upgrade in the current semester, and you cannot apply to upgrade if the shorter award course has already been conferred.
Applications for upgrades will not be considered if requirements for the shorter award course have not been met.
It is possible to exit a Graduate Diploma or Masters early, with a shorter award course, if it is part of the embedded sequence. Requirements for the shorter award course must have been completed. Information on the requirements for the shorter award course, including core units of study that must be completed, can be found in the Tables of units of study found in the postgraduate handbook.
- Read the Faculty guidelines before making an application to upgrade or exit.
- Apply through your Sydney Student portal in myUni.
- Submit your application before the last day to add units of study for the current semester or after the release of results for following semesters or if you intend to exit.
- You will be notified, by email, of the outcome of your application.
