John Tonkin is an artist, lecturer and interactive designer / programmer. He exhibits artworks both nationally and internationally. In 1999-2000 he received a fellowship from the Australia Council's New Media Arts Board. John is currently working on a number of projects that use real-time 3d animation, visualisation and data-mapping technologies. These include “Strange Weather”, a visualisation tool for making sense of life, and “time and motion study”.
John has worked as an educator in a number of capacities, including 1991-1997 tutor for the Australian Network for Art & Technology (ANAT) Summer Schools and in 1995 as a guest lecturer at the Australian Centre for Art & Technology (ACAT), Australian National University. He has lectured in multimedia at a number of Sydney institutions including TAFE, Metro Screen, UTS and the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
