My research focuses on historical intersections between literature and science. My current project examines the discourse surrounding ecology as it emerged as a scientific discipline in the early twentieth century and the impact of this discourse on modernist representations of nature. This expands on my earlier work which traced late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century developments in the life sciences and popular perceptions of these developments as a basis for understanding Virginia Woolf's responses to established and emergent approaches to the study of nature.
