David Juste is currently a University of Sydney Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2006-2009). Previously he has been Frances A. Yates Fellow of the Warburg Institute in London (2000-2003) and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Lehrstuhl für Geschichte der Naturwissenschaften in Munich (2004-2005).

Research areas

  • Medieval (Latin) astrology and, more generally, all aspects of medieval and early modern culture, science and magic, including manuscript studies

Current projects

  • The Uses of Astrology, A.D. 1200-1700. A study on the uses of astrology in the various sectors of medieval and early modern society and culture, in particular in literature, art, politics, medicine, science, philosophy, and theology.
  • Les manuscrits astrologiques latins. Catalogue of Latin astrological manuscripts. Two volumes are about to be completed, respectively on the manuscripts of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich and of the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.
  • (with Nadja Germann, Barbara Obrist and Peter Verbist) Critical edition of the scientific works of Abbo of Fleury (c. 945-1004). Project supported by the Institut de Recherche et d'Histoire des Textes (IRHT, Paris). Closing date: December 2007.
