Step 3: Choosing your Units of Study
You will see in the course resolutions that there are requirements for junior units of study and senior units of study (i.e. maximum amount of credit points for each of these). Junior units of study are usually completed in your first year of study and provide the foundations for the senior units that you will take in second and third year. Junior units have 1000 level numbers in their Unit of Study code; senior level units have 2000 or 3000 level. Many senior units of study require you take certain junior units of study first; these junior units are referred to as prerequisites.
Not all of your choices have to count towards your chosen major(s) however. You may elect to choose individual units of study that complement your chosen major(s), or that provide breadth and depth to your studies. You may also choose units of study in order to satisfy an area of curiosity you may have. The thing to consider is that you will need to complete the junior prerequisites that will give you the greatest access to the senior units of study in all the subject areas you are interested in studying at senior level whether you decide to complete a major in a particular subject area or not.
Full-time and part-time studies
For each Semester, if you intend to enrol in a full-time load, you will be enrolling in four units of study. Local students can enrol in three units of study to also be considered full-time, however this may extend the duration of your course and could affect any government benefits you may be receiving. International students on a student visa must enrol in a standard full-time load of four units of study. Local students wishing to enrol part-time must enrol in at least two units of study.
The next steps will guide you through choosing your units of study
First you need to choose units of study from your selected major(s). You can choose these units by using the drop down menu below. For more information on a unit of study including its availability, please click on the unit of study code. This will open a pop-up with the unit of study description. If you wish to add a unit of study to your Enrolment Planner, simply click on the add button. If a unit of study is offered in both semester one and two, you will also be asked to choose which semester you wish to study the unit of study in.
For some courses you may also need to choose core units of study. If these apply to you, they will appear above the drop down menu under the title of your course.
Once you have added units for your chosen major(s)
You now need to choose units of study from other areas that you are interested in, but may not be intending at this stage to major in. Remember you will mostly be taking units of study from Table A; however you can also choose units from Table B. Please refer to the course resolutions for any limits that may apply.
Once you have chosen all your units of study, click on the red ‘Next’ button.
Once you have added all your units of study for this year to the Enrolment Planner, you should click on the red 'Next' button under your Enrolment Planner.
