Leadership starts here: Information for senior students

Leadership starts

The Mentoring Program is a leadership program for senior students in their second year or later.

Mentors share their expertise on studying in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences with first year students who are beginning their studies in Semester 1, 2018.

As a Mentor you will receive intensive training to widen your leadership and communication skills and professional development, as well as the opportunity to make an impact in the real world.

Your opportunities
Joining the Mentoring Program gives you the opportunity to:

  • Receive leadership training to broaden your skills
  • Apply your skills to the real world and make an impact working with other students studying in your field
  • Network with senior student leaders, new students in your field of study, and staff in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
  • Access ongoing professional skills development to prepare you for your future.

Your commitment
Becoming a Mentor requires you to commit to 15 hours of work, plus training. This 15 hours of work includes approximately 7-8 hours on Welcome Day, the official first day of the program.
You'll need to be available on the following dates:

  • Mentor Training Session 1: Friday, 24 November, 2017 (Week 16)
  • Mentor Training Session 2: Thursday, 22 February, 2018 from 10am-5pm
  • Welcome Day: Monday, 26 February, 2018 from 8:30am-5pm (O-Week)

You'll also need to be available from O-Week to Week 6 of Semester 1, 2018, to complete your responsibilities as a Mentor. These times are flexible depending on your availability and the availability of your Mentor Group.
