Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) / Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery
Seven years full-time
Our unique program allows you to combine your interests in the humanities and social sciences with medicine. Only five places are available, and you are selected on the basis of your ATAR and an interview, which is similar to the interview used for the graduate-entry University of Sydney Medical Program (USydMP). In order to be considered, you must have a very high ATAR. If you are successful, you are offered a University of Sydney Outstanding Achievement Scholarship.
If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours), you will be able to accelerate into the senior level of the Arts degree, and have the opportunity to complete an honours degree in three rather than the normal four years. Please note that language studies are only available to students who have prior knowledge, due to the accelerated nature of the program.
In order to remain in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) course, you must maintain a credit average each year. You are also required to complete one zero-credit point subjects in Medicine during the Arts (Advanced) (Honours) degree, as well as three subjects in the Faculty of Science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry), before progressing into the USydMP.
If you are enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Adv)(Hons)/Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and have met all the requirements of the Bachelor of Arts (Adv) (Hons), you will not have to sit for the GAMSAT to enter the USydMP. This course is available only to 2010 Year 12 applicants, and international applicants who have achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of at least 99.95, and who have completed one of the following:
- An Australian Year 12 qualification in 2010;
- An International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia in 2010;
- A New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 in 2010;
- The University of Sydney Foundation Program in 2010.
