Bachelor of Education (Secondary: Humanities and Social Sciences) / Bachelor of Arts

Five years full-time

This combined degree program offers you a secondary school teaching qualification in the humanities and social sciences. Completing a degree in arts as well as education presents career opportunities in areas of curriculum consultancy, educational research, corporate training and human resource management. The practical work you undertake throughout the program is highly regarded by employers and the units offered throughout the degree present you with opportunities to develop your attitudes, skills and values in the areas of education and the humanities.

An additional Honours year in Arts and Social Sciences may be offered to those students who gain a credit average or above in the Arts and Social Sciences units of study. Honours in Education is offered as part of the fourth year to eligible students.

You can choose to specialise in two of the following areas:

  • English
  • History
  • Drama
  • Language - students may opt to qualify as teachers of one or two languages, choosing from Chinese, Classic Hebrew, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish
  • Visual Arts
  • TESOL
  • Geography
  • Economics

Please note that if you choose to major in Geography you must also complete an arts and social sciences major in a humanities subject area.
