The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is holding a two day orientation and induction event for all new postgraduate research students on the 21st and 22nd of March 2013. This event will give you an opportunity to gain essential survival skills for your time as a postgraduate research student, learn about the various resources we offer our postgraduate research students, and have your questions about the program answered.

The orientation and induction will also give you the chance to meet other new higher degree research students, as well as 2nd and 3rd year research students, thesis supervisors and Postgraduate Research Coordinators from across the Faculty. Events will include small group activities and Q&A sessions with, among others:

  • the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Professor Duncan Ivison
  • the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Research, Associate Professor Rodney Smith
  • the Director of the Postgraduate Arts Research Centre (PGARC)
  • library and information services staff
  • representatives from the Research Integrity and Ethics Office
  • Disability Services staff
  • the Faculty’s Postgraduate Academic Writing Adviser
  • representatives from the Sydney University Postgraduate Research Association (SUPRA)

Please also join us in congratulating our outstanding 2013 Postgraduate Teaching Fellows, and raise a glass to your new friends and colleagues at the early evening reception on Thursday, to be held at the University’s Nicholson Museum.

We hope that your time researching with us will be intellectually exciting and that you will take up the opportunities on offer to engage in the academic life of your Department, School and the wider Faculty. The March 21-22 2013 orientation will be one step towards achieving those goals.

We look forward to meeting you there.
