Postgraduate Research in Film Studies

Film Studies at Sydney University is an interdisciplinary program coordinated jointly by the Department of Art History and the Department of English and brings together scholars from a wide range of other disciplines including History, French, Japanese, Spanish and Latin American Studies, Philosophy and Studies in Religion. Postgraduate research students work on a broad spectrum of topics from national cinema, to film music, documentary, and to costume design. Visit the Film Studies program page for a list of current postgraduate research.

Research students have access to two excellent libraries:

  • Schaeffer Fine Arts Library: One of the leading art libraries in Australia in terms of the academic quality and breadth of its holdings and incorporating the Power Research Collection and the Power Visual resources Collection.
  • Fisher Library: Comprising university wide facilities for eleven disciplines it is the largest academic library in the southern hemisphere.

Research facilities are provided through the faculty's Postgraduate Arts Research Centres providing a stimulating environment in which students can carry out their research.
