Social Inclusion in Gender and Cultural Studies

7 April, 2014

Led by Dr. Jennifer Germon, the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney has been actively involved in the The Mount Druitt University Hub (MDUH) project through the participation of lecturers and postgraduates in the Mount Druitt Visiting Scholars program, the facilitation of research workshops for senior high school students and a social inclusion internship placement for Masters degree students at the MDUH.

The Mount Druitt University Hub (MDUH) project was conceived as a particular response to the broader situation of low post-school educational outcomes in the Mount Druitt region. The MDUH was founded in 2012 the basis of a partnership between the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and Loyola Senior High School (LSHS) in Mount Druitt. Since 2013, the project consortium has expanded to include representatives from the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney, the Faculty of Human Sciences at Macquarie University and Rooty Hill High School. Through programs, workshops, personal consultations and research into students’ perceptions of higher education, the MDUH seeks to serve all students in Mount Druitt region regardless of their high schools of origin or destination higher education institutions.
