Ian Young has been teaching Classical Hebrew and Biblical Studies in the department since 1989.

Research areas

  • language of the Hebrew Bible, especially linguistic dating of biblical books;
  • textual criticism of the Hebrew Bible;
  • canonization of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament.

Current projects

  • A Textual and Linguistic Commentary on the Book of Daniel.

Conference activity

  • In 2009 two sessions of the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA were devoted to discussing my book, Linguistic Dating of Biblical Texts, to which I responded. I will present a paper at the equivalent sessions this year in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • In 2008 I presented a paper at the Society of Biblical Literature International Meting in Auckland, New Zealand.
  • In 2007 I presented papers at the National Association of Professors of Hebrew conference in Sydney, the Society for Old Testament Study conference in Sheffield, and at the International Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature in Vienna.
  • In 2004 I presented papers at the Gilgamesh conference at the University of Sydney and at the Society of Biblical Literature conference in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
