About the History Department
The Department of History at the University of Sydney, founded in 1891, is the oldest and largest History department in Australia. It has the largest History Honours program and Postgraduate Research program in New South Wales, and one of the largest in Australia.
It offers wide opportunities for undergraduate study in many fields of history. The main areas of the Department’s expertise are American, Australian, Chinese and Medieval, Early Modern and Late Modern European history.
In addition we offer units in social, political, cultural and gender history, focusing on such themes as war, society, popular culture, race, film, gender, childhood, and sexuality.
