History Department Response to Student Feedback
HSTY1034 - Early Modern Europe (2003)
Unit Coordinator: Dr Nicholas Eckstein
“This unit allowed me to see how one could take another approach to study. I also found the atmosphere in tutorials to be very encouraging, where I could give a critical opinion and not feel embarrassed.”
“Excellent essay feedback and quick responses to all queries….Detailed explanations of where I went right and wrong were helpful.”
“I found the staff very encouraging and responsive. They were both very approachable and eager to help.”
“The subtle use of Powerpoint to amplify, but not dominate, lectures, allowed us the students to enjoy Nick’s particularly unique [sic] style….Just a great period in history, and as some commentators have said, we have yet to see the full outcomes of the French Revolution….This was probably the best unit of Arts I have been involved with in my studies so far.”
“The readings seemed necessary, but occasionally they were too long, eg. Saint-Simon.”
“I was satisfied because I actually learnt concepts and ideas I might not normally have thought about.”
“A broad understanding of history has helped my view of the world….”
“Tutes were comfortable, I felt able to express myself.”
