History Department Response to Student Feedback
HSTY2068 - The Rise and Fall of the First Reich (2005)

Unit Coordinator: Dr Lynette Olson

Students had extra-positive reactions to this unit; the mean score for overall satisfaction was 4.62 out of 5. Where one hopes that students will ‘agree’ that it has good features, a surprising number of these students tended to ‘strongly agree’ that it has them. These features included clear articulation of tasks and content and responsive feedback. It was particularly heartening to see students indicate that they felt part of a group of dedicated learners. Curiously, I was very critical of my lectures and tried to compensate with especially full course notes; whereas students tended to praise the lectures and no one mentioned the course notes at all! The only real criticism was that two important, recently translated primary sources were not yet in the Library and these will be ordered. The only other step I would like to take next time is to advertise this unit, which is both interesting and confers broader historical knowledge (supported by student comments) with posters.
